Neeraj Chopra is an Indian track and field athlete specializing in javelin throw. Neeraj Chopra was born on December 24, 1997, in Khandra near Panipat in Haryana to a farmer family. After Anju Bobby George, he became the second Indian to win a gold medal in athletics at the world championship level. He achieved this feat at the 2016 IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) U20 World Championships held in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Neeraj Chopra’s father, Satish Kumar, is a farmer from a small village near Panipat in Haryana. His mother, Saroj Devi, is a homemaker, and he has two sisters. Neeraj had no interest in any sport like javelin throw initially. When he was 11 years old, he started gaining weight considerably. Concerned, Neeraj’s father began sending him to the gym. But for some reason, he left the gym and started sending him to the stadium. Encouraged by Jayveer (Jay Chaudhary), who practiced in the stadium in Panipat, Neeraj developed an interest in javelin at the age of 11. Jayveer is a javelin athlete who represented Haryana.
He achieved this feat at the 2016 IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) U20 World Championships held in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
- In the Asian Athletics Championships held in 2017, Neeraj won the gold medal by throwing the javelin 85.23 meters. Then in the 2018 Commonwealth Games held on the Gold Coast in Australia, he won the gold medal in the javelin throw competition by throwing 86.47 meters.
